this page is gonna be a mixture of a shrine and a little information and reflection.

mostly just me rambling though.

buck-tick page

this will be a highly subjective write-up because...

  1. history writing has been done more accurately and more comprehensively before,
  2. while i try to be up to date my site may not be. (then again, what bt fan site updates on a schedule? aren’t we all adults with responsibilities…)
  3. the best i can offer is whatever this is.

if some of my information is incorrect 1. sorry about that! and 2. so it is then, i will update it at some point.

if you're also a fan and wanna put a thing on your website feel free to use the lil button i edited so i could link this page on my site. no credit needed, it's just an edit from official material.

bio

buck-tick is a rock band formed in gunma, japan. they debuted in 1987, although they did start playing and performing together already in 1984. their style ranges from post punk influences to electronic bops with a variety of stuff in between and mayhaps even outside.

i started listening to them most likely due to a random spotify recommendation some years ago - i don’t remember, but one of the first songs i added to my bangers playlist was Babel, closely followed by 相変らずの「アレ」のカタマリがのさばる反吐の底の吹き溜まり.

i was drawn in by sakurai’s beautiful voice and had to look up what genres to look for more of whatever this is so in that sense bt was the vk gateway band for me despite of their range outside of the style and the fact that i'd listened to others before just not getting into the whole thing as deeply as i did at this point.

there's the "is bt vk" discussion of course, but i would say the venn diagram overlaps partially and is somewhat era- and style dependant. i think godfathers are members of the family.

i still find most stylistic inspiration from their forays into the goth-esque and non-confirming. i wish i'd found them earlier but I'm glad i did at all! thank you algorithm? for once?

discography

bt have released 22 studio albums, 44 singles, 2 mini albums, as well as 9 collections, vhs, dvds and blu rays. you see old vhs floating about on jpn auction sites. watching 144p vhs rips on the net really makes one appreciate modern technology. save for the nostalgy value.

i was once asked what album i would recommend to start from and i said darker than darkness style 93 but i would choose differently now. while dtds is lovely and contains one of my favourite songs 誘惑 - the reason why i initially recommended that album - i would start from something with a little less additional effects on the singing just to also lure you in with sakurai’s voice.

if you don't know any songs pick an old album and a new album or check what's on the new box set, it's divided into themes so check out what speaks to you.

international fandom

while bt haven’t toured internationally they have following worldwide - just look at the amount of spanish translation videos on yt. finding music or merch in your local store may be a struggle though, and in order to see them live you need to do the travelling. i haven't yet but i'm working on it! other people have written literal guides about how to get on with that. that's wild to me but i appreciate it.

band member side projects

some of these were notoriously hard to dig stuff about and there was a little more that was a bit dodgy on sources and or annoying so i gave up at this point. my japanese isn't stellar yet so cross referencing takes so long. out of these i regularly listen to schaft, schwein, lucy and the mortal.
